چکیده

The myocardium, all parts of the conduction system, and the S-A node contained iron in six patients with acquired iron-storage disease. The nerve fibers and ganglia contained negligible amounts. No correlation was demonstrated between the amount of histochemically demonstrated iron in the myocardium and conduction system, or the amount of transfused iron, or the amount of quantitatively analyzed myocardial iron and the presence of antemortem arrhythmias and conduction disturbances. The degree of scarring in the S-A node, A-V node, and bundle of His did not parallel the density of iron deposits in these structures. These observations support the theory that factors other than iron alone are responsible for the cardiac rhythm and conduction abnormalities associated with ironstorage disease.

Neuroprotective effect of caffeine in an early model of Parkinson's disease in rat: behavioral and histochemical evidence

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder affecting 1 to 3% of individuals over the age of 65 years. Both retrospective and prospective epidemiological studies have consistently demonstrated an inverse association between coffee consumption and PD. This study was designed to investigate the beneficial effect of caffeine in an early model of PD. For this purpo...

Glycogen-Storage Disease of the Myocardium with Obstruction

GLYCOGEN-STORAGE DISEASE of the myocardium is a rare hereditary error of carbohydrate metabolism in which excessive quantities of the carbohydrate accumulate in the heart muscle and other tissues. In 1950 di Sant'Agnese et al.1 reviewed the literature and accepted only 14 cases that fulfilled their criteria for diagnosis of the disease. Since then 39 more well-documented cases have been reporte...

Effects of Fe2O3 addition and mechanical activation on thermochemical heat storage properties of the Co3O4/CoO system

Effects of Fe2O3 addition (2-20 wt%) with 1 h mechanical activation on redox reactions of Co3O4 were studied by TG/DSC, SEM, and XRD analyses. The results showed that a Fe2O3 addition from 2 to 15 wt% increases the oxygen release from 1.4 to 3.4 wt% and decreases the reduction onset temperature from 1030 to 960 °C, while it increases the oxygen uptake value and re-oxidation onset temperature re...
